Sacred music has an important role in every religion. We have an extensive knowledge of the devotional songs and music of Western monotheist religions, thus it is interesting to examine a new religious community of Indian origin from this perspective. My investigations are based on the results of participant observation and conversations with the community members through the course of several years of intensive field work. I present the sacred music of the community through the role it fulfils in religious rituals and in reference to its aspects of inculturation and identity formation.
