This paper explores the relationship between the particular religious practices of Orthodox Serbians and the custom of tasting or ritual feasts; it does not discuss, however, the Holy Communion of church liturgy nor the distribution of the antidoron or prosphora (blessed or consecrated bread) at the end of the liturgy. I discuss one traditional element of ecclesiastical feasts, the "consecrated meal", which is the ritual consumption of specific meals related to Serbian Orthodox patron saint feasts and memorial feasts to the dead. This paper is based on fieldwork (participant observation) conducted in a Serbian Orthodox community of the Old Town of Százhalombatta, as well as micro studies conducted in other Serbian Orthodox communities. Settlements around Buda were chosen because their resident Serbians maintain a close historical and cultural relationship with the community in Százhalombatta having blood ties and matrimonial connections with them. My fieldwork began in February 2006, and is still in progress. As this is a short period, I refer to earlier research, the amateur ethnographic collection of sound and video recordings found in the archives of the "Matrica" Museum in Százhalombatta, and relevant data from the manuscripts found at the Ethnographic Archives of the Ferenczy Károly Museum, as an antecedent and starting point for my paper. Based on these sources, it was possible to investigate the changes and modifications in these customs, and the characteristic features of these particular, consolidated ceremonies.
